After the overwhelming response from the community for our Free Wills scheme in March 2023 benefiting Jane Scarth House, we are delighted to have presented the Romsey based charity with a cheque for £4,530.
The scheme allowed individuals to have their Wills professionally drafted with no legal fees attached, but were asked instead to support Jane Scarth House through voluntary donations. The event aimed to not only raise funds for this incredible charity, but to make Will writing accessible and affordable for the local community, addressing the barriers some may face when taking the first step towards writing a Will.
Hannah Goodeve, Solicitor at Parker Bullen who oversaw the scheme along with her colleague Chris Smith, expressed her gratitude for the remarkable response and the generosity shown by the participants. She comments, “We are thrilled to have witnessed such an incredible response to our free Wills scheme. It has been heart-warming to see members of our community coming forward to support Jane Scarth House while taking care of their personal legal affairs.”
Jane Scarth House opened in 1995 and was founded in memory of Romsey resident and mother of two, Jane Scarth, whose family to this day remain closely involved with the work of the charity. The team take pride in providing valuable emotional and practical support to anyone whose life is affected by cancer, whether that is the person living with cancer, or a family member, close friend, carer or partner.
Rachel Tucker, Centre Manager at Jane Scarth House stated, “We are completely bowled over by the support of Parker Bullen and the generosity of their clients who have donated to Jane Scarth House through the Free Wills Scheme. The amount raised is incredible and will provide 167 counselling sessions to our clients which will fund our counselling sessions for 1 month. All of our services are provided free of charge to anyone who is affected by cancer and we rely on the generosity of the community who donate items (and buy them) from our charity shop Jane’s, donations, fundraising events and grants. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us and to Parker Bullen for offering this service, it will make a huge difference to us.”
