Richard Le Masurier, a Consultant and former Partner in the firm, has more than 40 years’ experience in advising and representing clients who find themselves being prosecuted for alleged motor offences. He instructs a team of barristers of proven ability to undertake the advocacy in Court.
Our work in motor cases is charged at an hourly rate of £300 per hour (plus VAT @20%). In the case of a guilty plea for a minor offence such as speeding or careless driving, our typical charge would be £1,500 (plus VAT at 20%) for a single Court hearing, together with the average barrister’s fee of £500 (plus VAT @ 20%), resulting in a total cost of £2,400 (including VAT at 20%).
For more serious cases, a guilty plea would be charged at an average fee of £2,500 (plus VAT at 20%) for a single hearing, together with a barrister’s typical fee of £1,000 (plus VAT at 20%), resulting in a total cost of £4,200 (including VAT at 20%). More serious cases would be classed as:

In the case of not guilty pleas, our charges will again depend on the seriousness of the case, and will usually be in the range of £2,500 to £7,500 (plus VAT at 20%) for a single hearing, together with barrister’s fees averaging £3,000-£5,000 (plus VAT at 20%).
In cases where a trial lasts more than one day, the barrister’s additional fee will be within the range of £650 to £1,500 (plus VAT at 20%) for each additional day in Court.

Nearly all motor prosecutions are dealt with by Magistrates’ Courts, but the most serious offences are transferred to the Crown Courts. Our charges as set out above are the same in either Court.
